The North American F-100 Super Sabre was a U.S. supersonic jet fighter in USAF service 1954–1971 and with the Air National Guard until 1979. First of the Century Series, it was the USAF’s first fighter to reach supersonic speed in level flight (822 mph). Designed as a higher-performance follow-on to the F-86 Sabre, the F-100C used a Pratt & Whitney J57 turbojet with afterburner (~10,000 lb thrust). Dimensions: 47 ft long, 38 ft wingspan, 45° wing sweep. Armament: 4 × 20 mm cannons, plus external rockets/bombs for fighter-bomber roles. Replaced for strike missions by the F-105 and later by the subsonic A-7 Corsair II for close air support in Vietnam. Nicknamed “Hun” (from “one‑hundred”), it also served with NATO and allied air forces; Danish and Turkish F-100s served until 1982. Many survive in museums. The Black Panther insignia on your box/decal is from the 21st Fighter Squadron (active until 1959), adding authentic detail to your Atlantis model.
